5V News

Tech demo:
Thank you to those parents and students who were able to attend our tech demo on Wednesday.  The students were awesome!

New class books:
Thank you to 5V families for purchasing new books from the book fair for our classroom.  The kids have enjoyed reading all of our new books!

Holiday book swap and celebration:
We will have a holiday book swap and celebration on Thursday, December 20th.  Our 5V room parents will be contacting you regarding how you can help if you'd like.  I'd also like to do a book swap as part of our celebration.  I'm hoping each student can bring in a new or nearly new wrapped book (without a name) to share with the class.  Each student will leave with a new book to read over the vacation.  As always, feel free to contact me if you are unable to contribute a book and I'd be happy to help.  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

We are learning about:
  • Geometry
  • Personal narratives
  • Mystery
  • The circulatory system
Some activities we did this week:
  • Practiced setting up dialogue in our narratives
  • Read Mole Music to look for words to use to signal time passing
  • Began our mystery unit in reading
  • Discussed the roles of protagonist and antagonist
  • Listened to our heart beats with stethoscopes
  • Walked the path of blood through our heart with our 2D heart made of tape on the floor
  • Experimented with how exercise affects heart rate
  • Found the sum of degrees in different polygons
  • Played "Polyon Capture" and "Angle Tangle"
Notes and reminders:
  • Early release- Wednesday, December 12th
  • Holiday celebration- Thursday, December 20th
